The Dublin school district

In November, voters passed a 7.9-mill operating levy and a $48.8-million bond issue by the largest margin in the history of the district. The much needed operating money will allow the district to maintain its academic excellence, while the bond issue will fund the construction of a 12th elementary school, technology for all buildings, general building maintenance and equipment replacement.

In 2004, Dublin Schools opened its third high school, Dublin Jerome. The opening of Jerome alleviated overcrowding at Dublin Scioto and Dublin Coffman, giving students and staff the space they need to perform at optimal levels.

For the 27th straight year, the districtís student population increased. Official enrollment taken in October of 2004 puts the districtís enrollment at more than 12,750 students. The continued growth of the student population is a challenge for our districtís budget and facilities.

While the school system continues to grow, Dublin Schools studentsí reputation for superior academic and extracurricular performance also continues.

The district met 17 of 18 standards of the Ohio Department of Educationís 2003-04 District Report Card, earning the Excellent designation from the State of Ohio. High school students choose from 24 Advanced Placement and Honors classes in Literature, English, Spanish, Japanese, Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, History, Sciences and Studio Art.

More than 90 percent of Dublin students traditionally move on to some form of higher education, more than 85 percent choose to attend a four-year program. The average ACT score of our students in 2003-04 rose to 23.7 and the average SAT composite score was 1120.

Students also continue to perform admirably in extracurricular activities. Dublin athletic teams continue to win conference, district and regional state championships in a wide variety of sports. More than 400 students were honored in June at the Excellence in Education breakfast, 15 students were named National Merit Scholar Semifinalists and 106 students earned AP Scholar honors.

The diversity of the student population continues to expand as well. Dublin has more than 700 English as a Second Language students in the district, speaking 49 difference languages. More than 19 percent of the student population is culturally diverse.

The staff of Dublin City Schools is also growing in-line with its student population and continues to be one of the best teaching staffs in Ohio. Twenty-six Dublin teachers have earned the prestigious National Board Certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. In addition, the district employs 1,041 teachers and more than 1,641 people total.
