And after taking a day to digest the beauty, and breathe in its purity, most find a persistent desire to explore its depths. There are an extensive collection of hiking trails and nature walks to satisfy everyone from the ardent outdoors-men to the casual walker. You’ll discover literally hundreds of alpine lakes trickling down to seasonal waterfalls, Herculean cedar and fir forests, overflowing meadows of wildflowers, volcanic peaks and geological formations, and of course a plethora of wildlife. Most trails are managed by the US Forest Service and California and Nevada have fantastic trail systems in their state parks.
